He makes a reasonable argument, but spends too much time talking about how he is so sickened, and too little time getting down to the nitty gritty.One of the major reasons why Apple has been able to do what it does is that they maintain total control over everything they ship. If you buy a Mac it is a combination of Apple hardware and Apple software that you can be confident will run well together. It has always been this way. This is how Apple can be sure that their products meet their standards. Contrast this with Windows systems, where any company can come along and make software or hardware. The result there is a slide to mediocrity.So sure, openness has some benefits, but you have to understand that Apple is terrified of opening things up too much, and you have to understand that this is a legitimate concern of theirs. So please Jason, consider both sides of the argument and then make a reasoned defence of your position.
